Naga022 Hirado Persian-drapery-style urn Prime Hirado ware from the Mikawachi area of Nagasaki Prefecture. Covered urn with onion shaped finial and lion-mouthed flanges typical of designs seen on porcelains for export to the European trade during the 17th and 18th centuries. Design is of Persian style draperies often shown on wares from the Jindezhen kilns of China.This piece has adapted the style to Japanese designs of waves and flowers within the drapery triangles. Along the bottom creeps a design of two sleek dragons. Top is a continuation of the Persian style draperies seen on the body. Without signature or mark. Inside is continuous white porcelain, indicating that the piece, if not simply for decorative use, might have been used for storing liquid or foodstuffs such as pickles in broth.
