Naga031 Nagayo sake flasks

A pair of tokkuri (sake flasks) of Nagayo Porcelain, a small kiln located in the area surrounding the present town of Nagayo, Nagasaki Prefecture. Now extinct, the kilns there and in the Omura area once produced an exquisite form of sansai (tricolored) ware 長与三彩 that has its origins in the Tang Period (8th century China). Nagayo tricolor is now very rare, but these blue-and-white pieces from the 1930s were found in antique shops in Nagasaki City.
