Naga067 Mikawachi Somei kiln akae platter

Mikawachi kiln, modern, that experiments in the reworking of traditional glazes in new ways. This piece, a long irregularly slab shaped as a serving platter in a mixture of porcelain and Karatsu type clays, has a surface decoration reminiscent of the akae ware produced in Arita. Here the full color palate is used: red (akae) designs of peonies and maple leaves, green for bamboo, fence, and some cloud, blue for the Chinese sage on the left, the recluse on the right, and the two heavenly catfish that swim at the top and bottom. Touches of gold in the sky, bamboo, and spots around the rim complete the design. Not marked or signed, but the name of the kiln is Someigama 宗明窯 Length: 55.5 irregular Width: 27.5 irregular height: 3.5 irregular. The address is 1536-1 Kuchi no o-machi, Sasebo-shi 859-3161 Tel: (0956) 30-8362 佐世保市口の尾町1536−1Mr. Yokoishi Yoshiaki. See items# in an oribe (Mino) type of glaze, also from the Somei kiln.
