Naga075 Japanese hero plates

Set of 5 scalloped edge dessert plates from the Ogasawara Toemon Kiln in Ookawachi. Iro Nabeshima, colored Nabeshima in blue, green, yellow, red, and black, with additional beige and gray. Design is of Ookuninushi, the mythological God who ruled over Izumo, as known in the early Japanese chronicles from the 7th century. A formal seal in red in the surface of the plate reads: Naikoku jinja guji (last three characters unrecognizable): All Japan Federation of Shinto Shrine Priests, in commemoration of some event. The reverse carries a hand drawn signature, the character To “¡, part of the kilnfs name Toemon. ޵‘㬊}Œ´“¡‰E‰q–å@—q Top circumference: 19.3 cm. Bottom circumference: 11 cm. height: 2.5 cm.
