Naga093 Five-clawed Imperial Ching meiping vessel

Chinese white porcelain urn in a traditional meiping shape with a raised design of a 5 clawed dragon, emblem of the Imperial rule . The characters just above the dragon’s face Neifu 内府 refers to vessels made expressly for the Chinese Court. I came across this piece in an antiqu e market in Nagasaki, and then later discovered vessels of exactly the same nature and size in the collections of the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka . Those in the museum are dated from the Yongle Period 1403-1424 of the Ming Dynasty and have blue-and-white floral caps. My piece carries the design of the five-clawed dragon, thus possibly making it of a later date. I do not ha ve the ceramic cap. Height approx. 35.5 cm., width approx. 21 cm., bottom ri ng diameter 14 cm, top ring diameter 6.5 cm.
