Naga098 Three Chinese men plate

Chinese blue and white porcelain plate, possibly Jingdezhen 景徳鎮, with a design of three men that seems to indicate the world of Chinese drama. A nobleman scholar is reclining in his study examining an important piece from his collection (an ovoid shape, possibly representing a porcelain plate on a stand) while his servant looks on from the garden outside the room. Beyond the round garden window, we see a third man dressed in theatrical garb, as though a jester of some sort. I have not been able to locate the operatic reference, but likely refers to a popular piece. Reverse carries a design of a gourd for refreshment, scrolls indicating scholarly work, and a fan indicating official rank. Top diameter: 25.7 cm. Bottom diameter: 16 cm. Height:4.3 cm.
