Naga121 Arita blue-gray cobalt sansuiga octagonal plate

Arita blue and white kakuzara octagonal plate with original hand brushed design in a light shade of blue-gray cobalt, of a freely conceived sansuiga (mountain and sea landscape), with the eight edges in a garland of stylized chrsanthemums against a blue wash in a wave pattern. The reverse carries two sets of 4 hand brushed designs (five pointed lozenge plus a stacked box and peacock feather - very rare). The back center has a hand brushed Chinese character that is found on certain pieces dating from 1790-1860 in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum Collection catalogues. Circa 1850. Top width: 21 cm.
