Naga122 Arita landscape and sunflower octagonal plate

Arita blue and white kakuzara octagonal plate with original hand brushed fine-line design of a sansuiga (mountain and sea landscape) surrounded by a Chinese key design, surrounded again on the bottom of the eight sides in a stylized half square. Above that are eight stylized sunflower design set in fine-lined diamonds. Very bold and original design showing great technical skill. The reverse rim carries a hand brushed design of interlocking tentacled Chinese vine (tako karakusa). The signature in the center dates from the period 1820-1860 and can be found on other pieces in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum in Arita. Circa 1850. Body is in a slightly irregular twist experienced in the firing. Small chip at the bottom left corner on the front. Top width: 24.5 cm. Corner width: 28.5 cm. Bottom diameter: 14 cm. Height: 4.5 cm.
