Naga124 Arita sea and landscape octagonal plate

Arita blue and white kakuzara octagonal plate with original hand brushed line design in deep cobalt of very bold and freely executed sansuiga (sea and landscape) with surround border at top of a simple line design, surrounded at the bottom of the inner rim by half square line designs with a inset lozenge design on the four sides of stylized sunflowers, or daisies. The four corners carry a larger sunflower design riding in a background of lined lozenges containing ricefield squares. See also # 125. The reverse carries four stylized, hand brushed designs, of a boat in the smaller corners, and a stylized rising sun over mountain design on the four larger sides. Signature is a stylized 玩　found on other pieces in the Kyushu Ceramic Museum Collection from the period 1810-1858. Circa 1850. Top width: 29 cm. Corner width: 34.5 cm. Bottom diameter: 17.5 cm.
