Naga125 Arita bold line-design octagonal plate

Arita blue and white kakuzara octagonal plate with hand brushed design, in the center, of a sansuiga (mountain and seascape with dwelling and stylized boat. Very bold line-design (most brush strokes are straight lines), giving the entire composition a bold outline and dramatic presence. Three bands fan out from the center design: first a stylized ribbon design, then a box within box ricefield design, continued to the edge with four bold kanoko designs in the corners, and four bold cloud designs in the middle of the sides, floating on a background of line drawn diamonds with a center ricefield square. The reverse carries a design of a boat in the four corners, and a larger hand brushed design of rising sun over hills and ricefields. The character at the middle of the back is meaning something like playful. It can be seen in other pieces from 1810-1850 in the collections of the Kyushu Ceramic Museum in Arita. Top width: 31.3 cm. Corner width: 37.5 cm. Bottom diameter: 18.5 cm. Height: 5.4 cm.
