Naga131 Arita illustrated kimono design octagonal plate Arita blue and white porcelain kakuzara octagonal plate with a stencil transfer (inban) design of the familiar Chinese landscape of water and mountains called a sansuiga, with a inner border trim in the Chinese key motif. The rim surround for this piece is a remarkable four-part design of illustrated kimono design books popular throughout the Edo era. Each stencil design rolls around the corner, very unusual in such designs. The backside is once again in the familiar three lozenge in a tied decorative cord, with four concentric bands at the inner and outer center. No mark or signature. Meiji Period. This piece shows exceptionally bright and clear color. It has several cracks on the back, a major tear in the porcelain, a crack on the bottom rim, as well as a firing flaw on the front right. Shows signs of having been lovingly used, despite the firing flaws. Top width: 30.5 cm. Corner width: 35.8 cm. Bottom diameter: 17.5 cm. Height: 4.5 cm.
