Naga138 Mikawachi Chinese mountain and water stand

Kenbyo or small stand (tsuitate) used by calligraphers to mark space between themselves and observers or students. Though new, this exquisite piece carries a meticulous Chinese Mountain and Water design, different on each side and showing a scholar painter inside his open pavilion, gazing out on the magnificent scenery. The borders and feet are executed in a pomegranate design, perhaps to indicate the origin of such designs in the Southern Literati painting of the Song Dynasty (宋朝の文人画)。Height 16.5 cm, width 14 cm, thickness 8 cm base, 2.5 cm tablet.
