Naga147  Mikawachi red-painting cups and saucers

Hand-painted demitasse cups and saucers from Mikawachi, Meiji Period 19th c. Gift of Walter Klinger. Akae red-painting with gold overleaf, over underglaze blue and white figures and landscape. Three lozenges on the cups and the same on the saucers show a couple dancing, the man with a fan in his hand, a bird singing among cherry blossoms, and a Chinese style sansui landscape. 楽鳥生Rakutosei (made by a happy bird!!) and the characters for Mikawachi 三川内 can be noted on the back of the cups as well as on the saucers. Saucer diameter 11 cm., diameter of base 5.5 cm., cup height 5.5 cm., cup width 5.3 cm.
