Naga160 Arita inban Chinese landscape octagonal plate An octagonal serving plate in blue-and-white stencil design from Arita. Meiji period. The interior design is of a Chinese ideal landscape of clouds, pagoda, pine tree, rocks, waterfalls, bridge, and sea, with several other buildings, ceremonial towers, on the left side. A solitary figure holding an umbrella stands on the bridge. The interior lip of the plate contains the Chinese ideogram for good luck and marital bliss in the four corners,surrounded by four patterns of white egrets standing in water. The reverse carried the usual diamond and twisted tie design on the four sides. No other marks except for the kiln stacking tail in the center. The shape has become slightly bowed in firing.
