Naga162 Arita bird and flower inban

Very early experimental Arita blue and white kakuzara (eight-sided) plate. Late Edo Period or early Meiji, 19th c. The reverse is hand painted in a design of iris and water plants while the front has a stenciled border of mijinkarakusa (I call it DNA), with a central design of along-tailed bird, perhaps an onaga (a type of magpie), sitting on a branch of camellia. Slight chip in upper left-front. Width 21.2 cm. Height 21.4 cm. Diameter of back rim 11 cm. approx.
