Naga165 Arita camellia plate Hand-brushed blue-and-white kakuzara design from the Arita area, in bold straight lines with kanoko diamond design in the four corners of the borders, rice field squares elsewhere on the border, more modified rice field designs inside. The center design is a stylized budding camellia surrounded in a Chinese key design. The back carries four hand-brushed takokarakusa (nubby Chinese vine). It is signed Gan in the center. Probably executed at the same time with catalogue number 166. Early Meiji or late Edo. Bold strokes that point the way to such movements as cubism in the West, though nearly a half-century before such developments in Europe.
