Naga167 Arita Japanese landscape plate Hand-brushed blue-and-white kakuzara design from the Arita area, again signed Gan . Early Meiji or late Edo. Here Mr. Gan, letfs call him, executes a more traditional imari type design around the borders of the plate, yet in highly stylized typical of this artist. There is a Chinese key border nested against another of twinned bands, a nice juxtaposition of straight line and curved line. The center is a stylized landscape that suggests the ways artists working in cubism sought to recombine the planes of the human form. Here the planes of the rice fields, the sea, the mountains and trees are all reduced to a bold asymmetry. The reverse is a stylized design of waterways and rice fields. Width/Height 27 cm. Diameter of back base is 16.2 cm. Slight chip at the upper left-back. @ @ @ naga167 Arita kakuzara plate $180.00 (shipping & packing available) We accept VISA and MASTERCARD See more at Richard Arts
