Naga168 Arita landscape plate

Hand-brushed blue-and-white kakuzara plate from the Arita area, this time signed as ‘Made by Hiro’ ヒロ造、but extremely similar to catalogue numbers 165-167 signed Gan玩. The eight-sided border carries an uninterrupted band of stylized mountains and rice fields. A band of straight lines, a rice field design, and a twinned band border lead to the center landscape, a highly stylized, cubistic rendition of nets, sails, a dwelling, pines, sea, and mountains. I simply love the dynamism of this plate! The reverse carries a boldly swept design of rice fields again. Early Meiji or late Edo. Width 29.7cm, Height 30.3 cm, back ring diameter 17.2 cm.
