Naga169 Arita field and sea plate

A wonderfully stylized kakuzara plate from the Arita area, signed by Gan 玩who can be seen on several other similar designs from this collection. This Gan design continues the bold straight lines around the eight-sided border, and in the lower bands of the front side of the plate leading to the main representation of landscape, a highly stylized, cubistic rendition of rice fields, sea, boat, dwelling, pines, sea, and mountains, all the elements of the Kyushu landscape in flat planes and bold strokes. Early Meiji or late Edo. Width/Height 26 cm, back ring diameter 15.8 cm. No imperfections or chips.
