Naga172 Onaga magpie and camellia plate

A boldly executed blue-and-white plate from Arita. Within a ring drawn at the border, the design sets down, asymmetrically as is typical with Japanese porcelain, a design of the onaga magpie sitting on a branch of camellia. There are Chinese garden rocks in the foreground. Some grasses and water fill the bottom left. The backside carries two designs of mountains, and boats. There is an impressed seal, but it is too faint to be read. Diameter 30.8 cm., back circle diameter 19 cm. Surface worn at the front in several spots.
