Naga182  Hawk and pine charger

Mid Meiji Period,c 1890, blue-and-white stencil plate in a design of a hawk perched on a pine bough, with plenty of the asymmetry characteristic of Japanese pieces. The reverse stencil is of a camellia blossom. The signature is what looks to be the capital letter R and efrom thef RoY. From other pieces of the same era, it can be seen that the firms of Fukagawa, Yamatoku, and others were engaged in the mass production of such pieces before their fame was established for finer forms of hand painted and colored porcelain. Diameter 31 cm., back rim diameter 19.5 cm. Height 3.5 cm.
