Naga195 Chinese style landscape plate

Extraordinary blue-and-white hand painted charger from the Mikawachi area. Meiji Era. Though the design is of a traditional Chinese style landscape, this large piece exhibits beautiful elements of Japanese porcelain: the shading of the sea, mountain, and distant hills, the milky white of the glaze, the cloud pattern across the top of the landscape, and the full billowed sail of the fishing boat in the foreground. The reverse is hand-painted as well in an interrupted band of stylized Chinese vine and blossom motif. This piece is signed possibly as the old character kanji for Den, to transmit, to hand down. Diameter 47.5 cm., back circle diameter 30 km. Height 5.5 cm. Pristine condition.
