Naga198 Flower and Chinese vine plate

A large Arita charger, hand-painted, in a bold design of flowers: chrysanthemums and Chinese vine in a border, a pot of camellias and three crysanthemums in a garden against a backdrop of a flowering plum. The glaze has a firing defect in the upper right side, just below the flowering plum. The reverse is freely drawn in the design of dragonflies and summer wide-brimmed hats. There is no mark, but nine kiln stacking marks in the middle. It appears that the rim has been carved out to fit before the firing. Late Edo, early Meiji. Diameter 45.8 cm., back circle diameter 27.5 cm. Height approx. 6.5 cm but varies.
