Naga225 Hasami rising sun plate

Blue-and-white porcelain, hand-painted on front and back, from the Hasami area, near Arita. Hasami porcelain is characterized by its somewhat bluish overglaze. This piece seems Arita white on the front, and Hasami blue on the back. The design is of the sun rising over the waves and a scene of a meiotoiwa vw, or enjoined rock design. In several places along the Japanese coastline, one finds these symbols of marital bliss. Perhaps this is of the one found in Nagasaki. Another well-known set of rocks can be found in Wakayama Prefecture, near the Shirahama hot-spring. Diameter 22.5, height 3 cm. Three kiln stacking marks on the bottom. Not signed
