Naga332 Arita inban phoenix and paulownia leaf plate

Arita blue-and-white inban stencil plate from the Meiji era, late 19th century. One of the many auspicious phoenix designs frequently seen in this collection, this plate likely commemorates the Imperial Family in some way. A single phoenix (symbol of rebirth and of the Imperial throne) flies in a sky of paulownia leaves, surrounded by a border of four cherry blossoms and scattered petals against swirl lozenges. The back carries 3 designs of stylized cherry blossoms. Three rings at base. No mark, but likely to be from the Yamatoku or early Koransha kilns.
