Naga366 Hasami Portuguese design coffee cup and saucer Hasami blue-and-white hand-decorated coffee cup and saucer in the design of freely and comically drawn nanban, or Southern Barbarians as they were called, the earliest callers in the port of Nagasaki in the 16th century. These Portuguese, and later Dutch men, wore pantaloons and hats that were the fashion of their day. The rims of the saucer and the cup are in a traditional cloud design derived from their use on folding screens depicting the lives and customs of Barbarians, called the Nanban byobu. Several are in the collections of the new Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture, and many more in the Kobe City Museum. Signature on bottom of cup and saucer reads Kan Notice the typical Hasami overglaze of light celadon green over the blue-and-white. Diameter of saucer 15.3 cm., diameter of cup 9.8 cm., combined height 8.5 cm. @ @ @ naga366 Hasami coffee cup and saucer $138.00 (shipping & packing available) We accept VISA and MASTERCARD See more at Richard Arts
