Naga377 Hakata kimono-clad dancer doll

Hakata doll, a dancer with fan, middle-aged. with lovely grey streaked hair, and wearing a pearl-tinted pale green kimono with a hand-painted design of Tahitian hibiscus in red and white. All Hakata Dolls are made of molded ceramic akin to Japanese roof tiles, and always hand-decorated. They are the primary tourist manufacture of the City of Fukuoka, in Kyushu. The older section of the city is still called Hakata. There are hundreds of figures and styles from many generations. This one is from the 1980’s. Not signed, but from the manufacturer Hakusen (はくせん). Width of base 22 cm., height 36.5 cm.
