Naga391 Kutani Daikokuten (god of good luck) figure

Kutani porcelain figure of Daikokuten, one of the Seven Gods of Good Luck. For other symbol structure and information, see Mark Schumacherfs excellent web page at: http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/seven.shtml

Here Daikoku is portrayed as a portly, mustached, smiling figure, wearing a beret type hat that some may find phallic, a mallet indicating that he is the bearer of good fortune, and a sack over his shoulder of treasure. One might consider Daikokuten as a god of the kitchen. This figure is lavishly hand-decorated by the Kutani craftsmen in the raised enamel and gold patterns characteristic of their art. As Kutani figures go, this is an unusually large piece. Width 23.5 cm., height 38 cm.
