Naga392 Phoenix and kirin bronze incense burner

Bronze incense burner from the Meiji Period, approx. 1900, with incised designs on front and back of the mythological phoenix bird and flying kirin (a kind of griffin). The main body sets on tripodal supports over a round base of a chrysanthemum and filigreed vines. The body handles are two phoenix, while atop sits a shishi lion with his sacred tama ball. Very auspicious piece designed to be placed in the tokonoma or decorative alcove of a traditional home. Width 18.5 cm., height 26.5 cm. Three hash marks on the bottom surface.
