Naga400 Nagasaki tricolor lion figurine Nagasaki sansui (tricolor) shishi lion okimono. From the tricolor kilns located somewhere near the city of Omura in Nagasaki Prefecture. 20th century. An older tradition of tricolor ware is found in the Edo era Nagayo sansai tricolor that combined porcelain with tricolor glazes and blue-and-white porcelain. The origin of the tricolor glaze technique must be traced back, in any case, to the Chinese Tang Dynasty tomb figurines (those magnificent tricolor horses for example) in three colors of yellow, green, and brown. Blue was sometimes produced as well, and this can be found in Nagasaki sansai pieces. I have a few more elsewhere in this collection, but the popularity of this ware has dwindled (alas!) and the latter pieces are not really very good. This piece, however, is one of the better ones I have seen. Quite substantial in thickness and richness of color, as well as in the great design. Diameter 12.5 cm., height 15 cm. @ @ @ naga400 Shishi lion okimono $65.00 (shipping & packing available) We accept VISA and MASTERCARD See more at Richard Arts
