Naga402  Japanese plover full-width sash

Maruobi, a full width sash of silk damask in a design of plovers flying over the sea. Red over black, full black damask backing, with a woven-in ideograms indicating it to be a genuine product of Kyoto (正号). The front is imprinted with the words 大紼　Daibutsu, in alternate ideograms for the Great Buddha. Does not seem to be a particularly Buddhist piece, but perhaps was worn for a ceremony. Late 1930’s. 3.48 m x .29 cm
