Naga453 Edo era zelkova lamp stand A lamp stand from the Edo era, mid 18th c. Zelkova (keyaki) with detachable outer door. During the daylight hours, the lamp was kept inside the cabinet to prevent leakage of oil. At night, the lantern would have been placed atop the stand, with the wick lit, of course. It is easy to see from this lovely stand, however, the extent to which Japanese buildings and homes, with tatami floors, were prone to fires when such a lamp stand either fell over from an earthquake, or was accidentally knocked down. @ @ @ naga453 lamp stand $190.00 (shipping & packing available) We accept VISA and MASTERCARD See more at Richard Arts
