Naga459 Mid 18th c. temple school low table

A low table meant for students, or student monks, in a terakoya寺子屋 or temple school, the main form of formal education prior to the Meiji era. Mid 18th c. solid zelkova (keyaki) in an extraordinarly beautiful grain, with hand-carved legs.
