Naga466 Noh drama Hagoromo standing screen

Tsuitate Υ—§or standing screen meant to block the view in the entranceway of a traditional Japanese home, but not prevent people from actually entering. The function of the tsuitate is to denote private space from public space, and is often decorative. This example has a frame in dark wood (not sugi cedar), and contains a large painting in Yamato-e style of the figure of the heavenly feathered maiden from the Noh drama Hagoromo ‰Hˆί. The signature and seal reads Kiyosumi ΄‹». It is dated May, 1959.
