Naga471 Plum blossom decorative panel

Ranma 欄間 or decorative panels used as a partition between rooms, above the fusuma or shoji, but beneath the ceiling, so that light may shine through from either side. This example, in sugi cedar, is carved on both sides to represent Spring warblers among plum blossoms. Meiji era, early 20th c.
