Portrait of a young man of the town of Menado, Celebes, Indonesia, wearing a turban and a sash in Art Deco colors of orange and yellow. The mangoustan fruit is in mauve. Notice that one prominent mangoustan leaf is insect damaged, pointing to the entropy Jacoulet so loved to portray in the backdrops and in the faces of his works. The man wears a comely silver earring. The fabric, I believe, was brought by Jacoulet from Tokyo for use with his models in some cases. This is one such case.
