An elderly Korean scholar seated upon a rock against a background of the mountains of what is now North Korea. The man wears a black lacquered horsehair hat, and smokes a long pipe. The red, pink, and green plants appear to be a form of poinsettia. Notice that the man’s garment, though without design, has been thoroughly criss-crossed in an overprinted pattern. |
