Naga495 Bergers de Hautes Montagnes. Coree 1941 Oban

@

Two young men in sandals and traditional Korean dress, with vests in contrasting colors, perched atop a crag amidst the mountains of what is now North Korea. The entire composition has an Art Deco feel in the juxtaposition of reds, pinks, and greens, while the brother without a hat peers over the cliff while munching on a peach perhaps. I am sure the print carries connotations for a native Korean who sees it, but to me it is symbolic of the youthful union of flesh, spirit, and landscape. Jacouletfs Korean series prints do not necessarily point to the decline and fall of a native culture as we can see here.
