‘Return from the Jungle,’ portrays three winsome young beauties each holding a spray of orchids they have just picked on an expedition into the tropical forest on the island of Celebes in modern Indonesia. Their facial characteristics indicate that they are of a mixed Portuguese and local ancestry. Their shawls are in Japanese designs and colors brought by Jacoulet for his models’ use. Their lips are brilliant coral from the pigments Jacoulet had ground.
